Individuals with disabilities living in Zambia often do not have the opportunity to attend a school. The common belief in Zambia is that someone in the family is cursed and that is why the individual is disabled. It is Through the Roof’s hope and prayer that through discipleship and trainings, the perception of individuals living with disabilities will be changed. Each school term, parents are invited to attend a workshop featuring disability awareness, educational strategies for individuals with disabilities, and community resources for families/individuals with disabilities. The Biblical viewpoint of disabilities is also shared with the staff and families TTR serves.

A huge component of Through the Roof is discipleship. Each morning the staff begin their day with a devotion. Likewise, the students begin each class session with a student devotion. Every week there is a community Bible study. It is such a blessing to see God moving within the hearts of many of our staff, students, and their families. Below are just a few of the students and family members that have come to know the Lord. What a blessing and a privilege to witness God working in their hearts and lives.

Many community children look into the school grounds at TTR on a daily basis. They see the TTR children and staff laughing and playing together. TTR desires that all children know how much God loves them, and that they were made in His image. Once a week, TTR hosts a Community Kids Club. It is such a blessing to see hundreds of community kids hearing the Gospel each week, as well as playing games along with and beside the TTR students. The staff have been able to answer questions from the community kids about disabilities and share what the Bible has to say regarding disabilities. We can see children who were a little apprehensive about our students, embrace our students and even go out of their way to help them. The Community Kids Club is a highlight each week.
